My recommendation is to do some research on your own, put together a loose itinerary of sites/events that interest you at that destination, and leave a lot of flexibility for spontaneity. I usually booked the flights (if I was flying) and first night lodging and last night lodging for the return flight, and very little in between unless there was an event than probably would limit availability of lodging. Not that I wouldn't rough out a tentative itinerary that I intended to follow. Most of my favorite travel memories came from spontaneous events, side trips, and what not that I tripped over unexpectedly that would never be found in a tour book or website. And would never have been experience with a hard fast itinerary or a "It's Tuesday, so this must be Belgium" guided tour.

I enjoyed Cape Breton Island which is part of Nova Scotia, Canada. A beautiful part of one of the maritime provinces. If you drive the loop around the mountains, drive it clockwise so you'll be on the inside. If you go the other way around, as I did, in many places you can't see anything over the outside of the road and it is a couple thousand feet down to the ocean.

@taneegoan That sounds amazing! I've never been to India before, but I would love to visit someday and see all the natural beauty and historical landmarks that your country has to offer. Thank you for the suggestions, I'll definitely keep them in mind when planning my trip. Have you been to any of these places yourself? If so, which one was your favorite?

The Philippines is a truly an underrated tourism destination. The further from Manila the better. People speak English and are usually quite willing to be helpful.
Manila is the most crowded city on the planet and can be scary.

Don't let your 14 year olds go to Europe by themselves, no matter how street smart they are. 😆

Hassanovic007 · 36-40, M
@Dlrannie That's a great suggestion! I've always been fascinated by China's rich history and culture, and I would love to visit someday. What are some of your favorite places to visit in China? I would be interested to hear your recommendations and insights
Dlrannie · 31-35, F
@Hassanovic007 There are so many fascinating places to visit. My personal favourites are Hong Kong’s outer islands - beautiful and peaceful. On the other end of the scale is Shanghai - I love the old French Concession area and promenading along the Bund🙂🙂

I haven’t traveled much but I hope to change that in the coming years.

@Stereoguy It sounds like you and your wife have found the perfect way to travel and enjoy your retirement! The motorhome seems like a great investment and makes it so much more convenient and comfortable to explore different places. I'll definitely consider this option when I retire. Thanks for sharing your experience and recommendation!
