@Matt85 different reasons, some I might have mentioned before. And tell people in real life maybe if they notice e.g. small ones that have an ok story..

They tell stories. I have one on my left arm from when I was a kid. My parents neglected to tell me there was broken glass in the trash bag when they sent me what felt like a mile away to toss it. Had to get stitches, but it left a cool scar, so all good.

Kind of foreshadowing in layers, however.
