Wealth skipped us, Trauma didn't

Carrying Generational Trauma Instead of Wealth

Some families pass down houses, land, or businesses. Others pass down stories, resilience, and scars that never quite healed.

When you grow up in the shadow of generational trauma, it can feel like you inherited a weight you never asked for. Patterns of silence, survival instincts, ways of coping that once protected someone else... they trickle down until they live inside you, shaping how you see the world.

It's not fair. We didn't get to choose what was handed to us. Instead of safety nets, we got tangled threads. Instead of trust funds, we got trust issues.

And the truth is, it's exhausting. To keep carrying pain that isn't ours, to bleed for wounds we didn't create. We call it “family,” but sometimes what we really mean is damage dressed up as duty. Not everyone escapes. Not everyone heals. Some of us are just left holding the bag, heavy with ghosts we never asked to claim.

Its really dumb as adults we get to heal the wounds, truama and the insecurities and projections of others. That never should have been ours to begin with. You are seen. You heard and you have value. Don't forget it. Living in survival mode with your nervous system constantly in fight or flight won't last forever.

@Anduwu Wow, thank you for sharing this. You put it into words so powerfully... it really is unfair what we end up carrying. I appreciate the reminder, and I know others reading this will too.

@mssweetdreams I am 5 years into my healing journey. It isnt easy. However choosing to grow and be better everyday than I was yesterday. Gives me a sense of purpose and is my intrinsic motivation to keep going. Healing isn't linear. It is like a spiral you have ups and downs. You make progress then take steps back. Healing allows us to feel joy and happiness while giving us the opportunity to not be scared of it. When we are used to the anger, sadness, depression, anxiety. The more negative feelings. We can can already handle those big feelings.

@Anduwu That's so true, healing isn't linear at all. I really admire your dedication to keep going even through the ups and downs.
