What are your thoughts on Virtual Reality?

On it's own it's an interesting concept if not an expensive hobby.

Just to get it out of the way the Metaverse is a joke. I don't believe that Zuckerburg has any idea what he's doing. I don't think he understands the wants and needs of his user base. Constantly shilling out money on a project because he thinks it's neat isn't the best business strategy. That said, it's his money and he can spend it as he wishes.

I think Vrchat is a good example of how Virtual Reality can work. I liken Vrchat to Reddit. They've been around awhile and have dealt with all the issues and disasters that come with their respective platforms and came out on top. Many people use both of these platforms for a wide variety of reasons. Are they perfect? No, not by a long shot.

I don't buy into the idea that virtual reality is going to be the next evolution in social media as a standard. I do believe it will be around and more prevalent. I think the biggest hurdle is finding a reason for people to be in virtual reality. Meta keeps pushing the work related uses across the world. I don't see people readily putting on a headset to stare at cartoon avatars to hold meetings as a serious form of communication. A video call over a phone is just far more productive and will probably remain that way for the foreseeable future.

I have nothing against virtual reality. I think it has it's uses in entertainment and opening dialogue for otherwise shy to communicate people. It's just not the thing that will encapsulate the future. Then again, with the breakneck speed at which technology is moving it just might evolve into something that could be a staple in day to day life. It would have to be a major change in design and usability.

There's a docu on I think it was Netflix or Amazon that was "We Met in VR" that I thought was pretty interesting. I think VR chat is in its infancy but also that the Metaverse isn't going to be the company that takes VR usage to a more widespread thing. I couldnt say what company will do that, maybe it doesn't exist yet. I don't think the bulk of society is 'ready' for VR experiences to be a normal daily thing.

@Starcrossed I can see that. The Metaverse being a stepping stone that other company use as a guide to learn it's pitfalls and where it excels.
