Eye glasses and shit..

You know...despite the fact that I have insurance ..eye glasses are going to cost me more than $500.

One pair.

This is absurd. It isn't as if I can just choose to not buy glasses and walk around half blind. This is necessary to a functioning life and yet .....

So here i am waiting for the place to open because I have put it off too long. My eyes are getting worse and if i don't get them soon i will struggle to drive.

I want to puke.

Something seriously amiss there.

Try going to a different optometrist.

For half that price you should be able to get two pairs.

Or get your written prescription and have your glasses made for you and sent by post. Companies like "Yes" have a wide range of styles of frames for a much lower price than your current quote.

P.S. Have you tried the non-prescription glasses available in chemists (drug-stores)? If your eyes are different they won't be perfect, but they can still make a huge difference.

It's ridiculous that a lot of insurance plans don't cover the cost of eyeglasses. Corrective lens are an absolute necessity for so many people.

I’ve had success with ordering on line.
I wear bifocals, the script isn’t complex, but one eye is weaker than the other.

I do have to wait 3 weeks for the glasses to ship from Hong Kong or Korea.. I have 3 pair that I rotate .

I quit getting glasses at an Optomitrist office for that reason. Places like Costco are much cheaper.
Gees. I buy Oakley ones and they dont cost that!

Yeah glasses are freakishly expensive. Are contacts any cheaper? I have no idea.

@Harmonium1923 contacts won't help and they bother my eyes.

@JaggedLittlePill Plus you look awesome in glasses!

Do you have an especially complicated prescription? Even here in high cost Norway you can get spectacles for a lot less than that.

You have my sympathies here. We've already discussed it, but the eyeglass industry in the USA is one big scam. 🙄

@sarabee1995 They called me after I left to tell me that my glasses would be $150 less than we had thought because "it turns out the insurance covers the premium progressives"

She didn't notice this last time? Or while i was there this time....only after i left and had literally asked about each item and price because it wasn't adding up to the same amount she gave me the first time. I think that bothered her a lot.

@sarabee1995 I might try warby parker i need rx sunglasses ....
sarabee1995 · 31-35, F
@JaggedLittlePill I got my "transitions" sunglasses from them. In general I like them and I very much liked the buying process.

BUT "transitions" lenses don't work in a car. They stay clear and don't go dark. I have no idea why but it's like one of the primary times when I want/need sunglasses. So anyway, I'd recommend regular permanent sunglasses rather than the transitions kind.
That's horrendous. You do need them though, so I hope the universe blesses you with some great dashing days.

I buy mine online. I have been doing it for 15 years and it’s much cheaper.
