The Spiteful Ocean Monster?
Northwest · M
I've done quite a bit of SCUBA diving with giant octopuses in the Puget Sound and BC. They are very playful creatures, like cats, and like cats, they can be moody.

@Northwest I think that this renews my love for the grumpy octopus in Finding Dory.

@JaggedLittlePill gawd we live in weird times.
I don't see it as discrimination though.
calling someone by their legal name should not even be an issue. if you want to change your legal name - then change it and people should call you by your new name.
and calling them by their biological gender - might be disrespectful and dismissive - but is not necessarily bullying.
I'm going to be working with a person with X and Y in the DNA that wants to be called her and she...I'll call her a tax if she wants - it just doesn't matter to me.
but I'm hoping that the bill is intended to prevent the real life situation where a teacher was fired for calling a kid by the wrong gender.
It's almost to the point where we need to wear an ID badge with our preferred pronouns so we don't offend somebody. - now if that teacher had been repeatedly corrected by the student - and employers documented counseling - then yeah, maybe employment termination would have been appropriate.
Like I said, life is getting to complicated for me to figure out these days - I'll order non-contact deliveries and not have to deal with it.

@Pretzel It is discrimination. It is refusal to accept who someone is. It puts their lives in danger: full stop.
They should be seeking asylum in other countries because their lives are truly in danger here. This is a path to legislating the right to kill trans people. You need to grasp this.
Othering people leads to them being othered..then they are seen as not human. It is exactly how slavery was justified..dehumanizing people is a path to genocide.

@JaggedLittlePill see that is the problem with individual rights. One person may see it is absolutely necessary for the survival of society to accept everyone. The reverse side of the coin is that those people are evil, sick, and twisted and their behavior is going to cause the downfall of life as we know it. And then there are the people within both sides of the spectrum with varying degrees of concern.
I simply won't agree with you today that calling them by their legal name is discrimination. I had teachers that called me by my formal first name when I preferred to be called by my nickname. You may think that is not offensive but I hate my first name for a variety of reasons. And yet I can't be upset with them (in my mind) because that is the name on all of my identity documents.
And society has not yet majorly accepted that you can pick your gender. People have moral, ethical, medical etc reasons for their perspective. Why are their viewpoints not as valid?
Not protecting their free speech is also troublesome.
Now where we no doubt agree is that a bunch of idiots regardless of age showing disrespect and harassing a person is wrong. But I think current rules and laws on the books are probably sufficient.
I think bullies are only slightly above tv evangelist and the IRS.
I appreciate your differing viewpoint and reserve the right to change mine.
