Most of make mistakes, usually not serious and easy to remedy.
I suspect many of us make more mistakes than we admit to.
I think the usual causes are things like:
- moments of being inattentive, not being tuned in to our sense perceptions and thus not noticing all that is going on around us
- distraction: either addiction to entertainment and stimulation, or preoccupation with other issues
- impulses driven by high emotion eg infatuation, fear, anger
- lack of research, information and planning
- not thinking through possible consequences before doing or saying something
- mistaken beliefs
- stress, juggling too much at once time
- fatigue, heat stress, dehydration, not knowing one may be coming down with a flu or illness
- addiction, being drunk or similar
For some people it can be due to undiagnosed ADHD
