I think, you get to a stage in life where you get comfortable with being who you feel you are.
You've survived all the knocks to your character and self-esteem over the years. You've realised that your maths teacher's assessment of you back in '79 wasn't worth the ten seconds of energy it took for him to actually TELL you !
And if you're lucky, you've put your life experiences into a perspective you can live with.
Therefore you go about life knowing that you're a reasonable human bean (yes, bean!) And anybody else's opinion of you is absolutely none of your business.
