Why do people care about apperance so much?

This bothers me for a long time now. People who laugh at other people for the way they look. Skin colour, hair colour, thin lips, way too big lips, no boobs, no ass, crossed eyed, no abbs. I could go on for hours. Point is, we get stupid comment about the way we look. Even though we didn't choose to look this way.
There is a differance between taking care of your body and being born with certain features. Why can't we just accept each other and life our lifes?
'I want a man with a sixpack and blue eyes' 'I want a girl with big boobs nice lips' please get realistic. In the end when we grow old we will have saggy boobs and lose skin. Wrinkles and no or thin hair. It just disgust me how people hurt eachother just because they don't like what they see. I wish everyone looked the same. Then we could just find that person that we truly want to be with.

Some would argue that it's in our DNA. To look for the perfect mate. And physical attributes are the first thing you see anyway, not the person's personality or character.

But I agree with you that it's sad how superficial people are. They expect so much, that they disregard what's really important which is what's on the inside.

@Tellica: It is indeed unfair when people bully others for something that the other person is not in control of. Society also dictates what the stabndard of beauty is, and it usually changes. Genetics plays a part on what people get from their parents as well. People who are considered "beautiful" by the society is just plain lucky genetically. But that doesn't mean they have the right to look down, make fun, or bully other people. We are all humans after all.

I think it's nice that you yourself as a young person recognizes that superficial things aren't going to last. :) I wish there are more people like you.

Appearance is the first thing we notice about a person we've never met. It's not a bad thing though. How someone chooses to portray themselves says a lot about the underlying personality. A fat person can look good if they take the time to properly groom/dress for their body size. Same goes for a thin person. The judgement comes from unrealistic expectations placed upon people to look like cartoon characters or fashion models all the time(who aren't even real anyway... it's 99% photoshop).

tl:dr: once people start accepting the reality of how we actually look, things will get better. :)

we find certain features appealing
why?
because we grew up in a certain environment
maybe we are genetically tuned to like certain features

we first see with our eyes before we get to know people

we like what we like

real connection =a good heart and soul
in sync with ours
connection that lasts

there is a lid for every strange looking pot out there

It also really sucks when people think they are not good enough just because of other peoples high standards. Jesus, no one is perfect!

That's like the most sane post I've read today along with another. I have never made fun of someone because of looks. Stupid to do that.

It is a human nature to assess people on their appearance. It is right.I agree with you.The question is can we correct all humans.
kronos · 41-45
superficial and judgmental. physical beauty is what attracts/lures people. its what drives hormones and desires

People who say hurtful things have issues beyond looks.
KandiGhostcat · 22-25, F
Yeah. It's more about personality then our appearance.

I don't know, I'd ask the girls that used to take the mick out of my disability and appearance when I grew up, but then they'd do it more.
