Do you believe that unless the core of an issue is resolved..no amount of pills will make it go away?

It really depends. Sometimes things arise from a basic conflict in the subconscious, and medication can only provide temporary relief for that. Other times, it's a matter of a conflict causing a change in brain chemistry which persists past the existence of the conflict itself, and that can be permanently alleviated by medication, I think.

@wiltingflower: Yes, it can be - the brain stops producing sufficient serotonin (which lack is what makes you depressed) due to a situational conflict; once the conflict resolves, it sometimes doesn't climb back to it's previous level of production, leaving you stuck in a depression which no longer has an external cause.

(that's a really brutal simplification of the brain chemistry side of things, btw, but I think gives you the right idea of what's going on)
