Take someone who is defined by those arround him and make him completely alone. Who will he become then? Will he become someone entirely new or will he become nothong and no one?
@NeloAngelo Your thought serves the old argument of "nature vs. nurture" where one side says that the environment or how one is brought up defines what the person is to become. The contrasting side believes that each individual is capable of "self-determination" no matter the circumstance of their environment or culture.
He won't become who he really is or was destined to become. He will be more like a puppet, at the mercy and control of what he thinks others expect from him. His true identity will suffer. He will lose that identity and never realized his true potential.
