Are you afraid of the darkness?

I feel a darkness upon me, darker still when I open my eyes. There are flickers of light fading in & out of existence, but darkness remains, still & quiet.

Darkness seems like my permanent friend. I am not scared of it anymore.

I'm comfortable with literal darkness, but the darkness of despair & of sorrow & of everything like that, I hope to overcome, if only slightly.

But can such a darkness be a friend? If one is a masochist, can one be a friend with anguish & perpetual discomfort? They can withstand it, but not for its own sake right?
