Holding on
You push me away, just a little at a time,
and I search for answers between every line.
The words that once warmed me have faded somehow,
and I wonder what changed, what you're feeling now.
You don't say you miss me the way that you did,
so I search for the feelings your silence might hidе.
Is it fear that makes you retreat out of view,
or is your heart slowly letting me go too?
I try to stay patient, to give you your space,
to understand the distance I feel in your place.
I remind myself that not all pain can be shown,
that some people grow quiet when fighting alone.
But I'm human too, and the doubt finds its way,
when I miss being wanted in the words that you say.
I don't need forever promised or skies always blue,
just a little reassurance that I'm still here with you.
So I stay, trying hard not to ask for too much,
afraid that my questions might make you lose touch.
Yet how do I know if I'm giving you room,
or holding on tightly to something that's doomed?
I wish you would tell me what's happening inside,
if you're scared and retreating, or changing your mind.
Because I'm trying to understand, not asking you to pretend,
but I can't keep guessing if we're nearing the end.
And maybe that's what hurts most, more than the space,
not knowing if I'm losing you, or simply giving you grace.
I'm still here, still trying, still hoping it's true…
But I need to know if you're still trying too
and I search for answers between every line.
The words that once warmed me have faded somehow,
and I wonder what changed, what you're feeling now.
