Do humans train themselves to feel psychological trauma?

Let's say something happened to you 10-15years ago. You went on with your life without thinking much about it. One day you tell your friend about it. Suddenly it is a big deal. Your friend explains why its a big deal. Now you can't stop thinking about it. You can't sleep. Your behavior changes. Your life is affected.
Did you have that trauma stored in you or you just learned to be traumatized?

I don't think that a person who experienced trauma can go for 10-15 years without any effect at all. It will emerge in some way, most probably in a form of some mental issues or physical issues. It's in them, might be dormant if they are busy and life isn't all that bad but it might take just one crisis and the spiraling begins.

@CrazyMusicLover I see. But they had a somewhat bearable without sharing their story.
Nah trauma always manifests somehow if you don't deal with it. There's things I don't remember from my childhood, only vague flashes so you're not wrong that what I can't remember doesn't upset me but it haunts me. The things I went through even the parts I don't remember turned into fibromyalgia, people pleasing dialed way up, fear of abandonment so strong I'm usually happiest alone.

Sure people go their whole lives never understanding what happened to them was wrong. They can live blissfully unaware as they pass that trauma on to others, usually their kids.

I'm dealing with my parents trauma that they didn't acknowledge. Couldn't. Didn't know to. What. A. Mess.

My son will have to heal from me in ways too probably.

Deal with it and end it.

It's not courageous to hide from your issues. It's inconsiderate to yourself and everyone that cares about you.

It will burst out eventually in one way or another. Often talking about it after many years is the beginning of dealing with the negative effects which has been suppressed. However, I do agree that sometimes talking about a trauma in an uncontrolled way repeatedly doesn't help and can cause the original experience to feel worse.

It might be affecting them before that without them understanding that it’s linked.. it shows up in different ways, and some of them just looks like being careless, «fun» or «perfect»

@Cassieee Does knowing/beware of the issue helps?
