I'm getting used to not having any real friends....people are good at talking just not reciprocating

Ties cut by death or distance? Ties caused by disagreement over basic principles of how you live your life? Neither are easy, but some are recoverable.
@bowman81 More on the lines of mental abuse. One of them is addicted to pain meds (opioids) due to severe back pain, so I can’t begin to tell you how her personality has changed. Their line of thinking many times doesn’t even resemble reality. Always expecting me to do, do, do and do some more. Always about them and whatever serves them. When I need this friend, they are NEVER available, not once in at least the last 4 years (friendship most of our lives). At times can be extremely selfish and quite insulting, and hasn’t a clue how far off the path she is. I no longer am willing to walk on eggshells… No longer will I allow people that are adults that behave like children to be a part of my life. They stress me, and I prefer peace of mind. I should have broke ties when I first realized they had a problem. There’s no amount of words to describe the disappointment and hurt I feel. I considered these friends to be my best friends in this world. But… with God’s help I will get over it.
I realize that all broken friendships have the potential to recover but I’m not willing to subject myself to what I have endured the last few years at the hands of people that care only for themselves and don’t see they have a serious problem. Truth be told, rehab maybe…..could help her immensely. Until she does the work, my friendship is off the table. I can be a friend only at a distance…The sad thing is she is in denial and would never admit to this addiction that I can clearly see. 😞
I realize I’ve interchangeably used her, she and their in my writing but the other party is her husband who would defend her no matter what. He doesn’t see her problem either …
