I don't think we are becoming more interested in appearances, I think we've been there for a long time. It would seem, with all we need to defend ourselves from, there's more ego-identity involvement these days than ever before.

I've seen for a long time on SW, more notice of and responses to "sexy" materials than to beautiful thoughts, meaningful words, and inspiring messages. Therefore, I'm not nearly as active on SW as I used to be.

this is one of those things anyway.
Becoming?? This has been true as long as I have been online.
As a kid, being the listener and the watcher, the people with the dirty jokes, filthy stories and women with the least clothes got the most attention.
Only in very specific circles was knowledge and deep contemplation admired.
Ann99 · 41-45, F
@nonsensiclesnail You're right I have noticed it too but I still believe there are people who appreciate meaningful conversations
@Ann99 there are not enough of them.
Sapio · 51-55, M
Been that way since the birth of the worldwide web.
Birdbox1986 · 31-35, F
@Sapio you can’t blame it in the web it’s been happening from beginning of time
Kiesel · 56-60, M
Definitely and quite often the pattern around here
Ann99 · 41-45, F
Exactly @Kiesel
That’s such a real observation. I’ve noticed the same thing, people can share depth and positivity, but it doesn’t always get the reach it deserves. Meanwhile, quick, surface level posts pull in the most eyes. It really makes you ask what we’re rewarding with our attention. Maybe it’s just what spreads fastest, but I agree, the stuff that actually feeds the mind and heart shouldn’t be the easiest to scroll past.
Ann99 · 41-45, F
@Iknowyourouttheresomewhere Yes exactly I don't really pay much attention to those posts myself But I have often smiled when I see such a huge crowd around them It just makes me think that many people seem more interested in that kind of content than in meaningful conversations.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
It has always been that way. First appearances are important, then the deeper things come out to seal the deal.
Some here just seem to be highly sex-deprived. It makes for some very strange reactions, to say the least.
Magenta · F
@Magicianzini Deprived and depraved for sure. It seems to go beyond merely enjoying it, to a fanaticism..
@Magenta I think it's likely desperation.
Magenta · F
@Magicianzini Must be. It gets so old. The 24/7 iterations = 🥱
Bleak · 36-40, F
This has been the case for very long. The only difference now is that it has become too common these days.
People don’t seem to enjoy meaningful conversations, let alone listening with an open mind, I think it’s the end of an era.
Ann99 · 41-45, F
@Bleak I agree to some extent. I've seen the same around me. Meaningful conversations seem to be rare these days, but I still believe there are good people who truly value them.
Bleak · 36-40, F
@Ann99 Those good people don’t join any conversation anymore.
Magenta · F
Are we becoming more interested in appearances than in meaningful conversations
Mmhm. Been that way for a very long time.🥱
Ann99 · 41-45, F
@Magenta You're right
Magenta · F
@Ann99 Maybe it's chasing dopamine, like many do.
Ann99 · 41-45, F
@Magenta Perhaps Dopamine seeking behavior is pretty common these days
nowic2 · 61-69, M
It’s sad but true.
Many are so superficial yet complain about the quality of their lives.
Like it or not, we have to live with the choices we make.
romell · 51-55, M
People seek what they can't get in real life on the web or what ticked their interest more .... philosophical stuff can be exchanged anywhere with anyone can you do the same on matters related to intimacy that too anonymously..?
Ann99 · 41-45, F
@romell You make a good point Everyone has their own interests and their own choices. I was simply sharing something I have noticed from my own observations. At the end of the day, everyone is free to engage with whatever they enjoy
TheHammer · M
Are you truly asking or is this a rhetorical question?
Ann99 · 41-45, F
@TheHammer First of all, thank you I really appreciate that you take the time to read what I write
And yes sometimes I do share quotes or pictures from the internet because I genuinely enjoy meaningful thoughts and inspiring words But whenever something in my surroundings or in my mind inspires me I write my own thoughts and share them too.

@TheHammer I understand Thank you for sharing your perspective.

I think appreciation is expressed. But it is not very visible..

Musicman · 61-69, M

GoFish · 41-45, F
@Musicman there's very few non perverts here you mean?
Musicman · 61-69, M
@GoFish Sadly that sums it up. ☹
