What Comes Back Around
Today, while thinking about you, a thought crossed my mind: if our paths were ever to cross again in this lifetime, would you be able to look me in the eye, or would you simply pretend not to know me and walk on?
And would I even be able to look at you? Because if I did, every bit of it would come rushing back; the pain, the lies, the betrayal, that final meeting; and perhaps I'd find myself weakened all over again.
Whatever the case, this entire universe, all of creation, knows the truth. If the suffering I've endured was a punishment for some sin of mine that I was destined to receive through you, then I accept it with complete humility.
But if these wounds were not the consequence of any wrongdoing on my part, then may the very anguish you caused become a reckoning for the one who inflicted it. And in that pain, may that person be haunted by every memory of me.
That said, I can't claim to be someone who puts a great deal of faith in things like karma or the universe.
