Unpopular Opinion: Protest is overhyped. Done to death these days.

I think people are trying to copy the most visible aspect of the original US civil rights movement.

But what they dont get is that what the CRM did when it wasnt protesting was actually more important than the protests themselves.

The CRM was a complex web of organizations that had treasuries, officers, and based themselves in serving the underserved through direct action.

Protest was the icing on the cake. Their service to their communities amplified the effect of the protests and vice versa.

No one cares if you're getting your ass whipped on TV if they don't know you nor your works.

But if you are a pillar of a community? Okay NOW its a tragedy.

Change doesn't come from spectacle. It comes from work. Hard work that no one asked you to do and that you may not even be being paid for.

Only after you've done a bunch of that will anyone care what you have to say. We've already got talking heads all over the TV. This is the only way anyone can be sure you're authentic.

Proof-of-work is like cash: king.
