This year I have realized...
It is a sound state of mind to cease expecting others to recognize the harm they have done you.
Life is too brief to be spent waiting for people to mature into awareness, or to arrive, belatedly, at remorse, no matter their numbers. They may come to it, or they may not. In the end, it alters little for your sake.
You don't have to be loved or chosen.
One learns, if fortunate, that necessity need not be confused with trust especially. This, too, is a kind of privilege.
There are those for whom no such distinction exists, those for whom a single misplaced faith, a single error in choosing whom to rely upon, is enough to end a life as drastic as it may sound. They don't have the privilege of being wrong.
I count myself beyond lucky.
