I have a different approach to this sort of thing. For me, to believe is something/have hope, means I have expectations.
Having expectations, even to expecting I'll wake up tomorrow, can bring disappointment. So, I have no expectations of people or life.
I live, act, react, respond (or don't), etc., in a positive way (or the best I can given the time/situation/event, etc.), and take what comes.
If good comes of it, then I'm pleased/happy and if not, I look at what I did and see if I can incorporate that particular action into my daily life. Still, with no expectation.
If bad/negative comes, then I look at what I'm doing and see if I need to change. Either way, since I had no expectation I'm not disappointed when bad comes, but I'm pleased/happy when it's positive.
Yes, there is probably seem deep psychological explanation for how I arrived at this, but that's okay, it works for me.

That was me... And to an extent I agree with you.. Cards on the table, I believe the Law of Attraction is bunkum.. And I am an Atheist.. However, Norman Vincent Peale and his power of positive thinking are quite real..Psychology uses positive visualisation as a tool, and sports training positively drips with it. Like the placebo effect, it makes a difference. It spurs us to persist and to draw that extra ounce from ourselves that sometimes makes a difference.
Personally, I believe that they cant beat you if you wont quit. And that has stood me in good sted through my career.. The important difference being that belief in a diety or a Law of Attraction are leaning on external forces. The Power of positive thinking comes from within, much like the Placebo effect, which is carried by our own belief..
If your belief in a higher power brings you comfort, then I am genuinely happy for you. I just dont share that. I prefer to be self driven..😷

@Ferric67 @FoxyGoddess I dont remember where I read it. Did i did read the quote someplace. "I found the harder I worked, the luckier I got"😷

@whowasthatmaskedman I believe that might be a Lou holtz quote
Perhaps while at Notre Dame
Which, by the way, a football coach of mine use to say it too

I was brought up to have a positive mindset about everything. For me, it works because when I wake up every morning with a positive mindset a smile on my face, my day always goes better and I am always so much more productive on those days.
Once in a blue moon that dark cloud will creep in and hides my positive side. I feel numb and tired for no reason and I just stay in bed all day.
So see for me the positive mindset works really well as it is also working the laws of attraction for me

@Jenny1234 I understand this. I wasn't raised to be a positive thinker, but yet, I will always find the brighter side of situations. That helps me a lot in dealing with difficult things.
My son has inherited this as well.

Personally, I think shit just happens. My time in nature and with animals humbles me, but I have believed in good and lost everyone. I have been the one to put good out there adamantly, and ended up in the garbage. I have shown up for people who forget I exist. I have been positive and it only disappointed me and showed me that hope is false. There are things I can work for. There are things I can pray for, mostly for others. But when it comes to myself, I see no benefit to any way of thinking or believing other than the comfort of ignorance. People that are endlessly positive despise me because bad things have happened to me, like I asked for it, so I don't care for that thinking either. I simply allow life to be what it is and continue being as kind or protective as possible depending on what my instincts tell me.
I know people have a lot of good experiences that lead them in their own direction, but if that's what it took, I wouldn't be miserable. If that's what it took, they wouldn't shun me for being in pain.
I believe in nature.

@ScreamingFox I think the idea that good begets good ftom people is a falacy. Good often just gets used and abused because people are so desperate to have their own needs fulfilled, they don't think beyond themselves.
So I am good to people on the basic levels. When they show they deserve more, I am happy to give. But when the exchange is one sided, I quit. It's my energy. I have the right to spend it how I will.
Good begets good in nature is more truth. Nature doesn't judge. It just is and lets us exist within it.

@FoxyGoddess I think sometimes nature is even too good to us, we just don't see it. Even the harshness can be good, because like you say, it's not to judge us, it's to make us stronger 🖤

I'm a firm believer in luck; I have found the harder I work, the more luck I have.

That's a fallacy. Two wrongs don't make a right.
FoxyGoddess · 51-55, F
@Alyosha What are the wrongs?
Alyosha · 36-40, M
@FoxyGoddess Believing in one wrong thing doesn't make it okay to believe in another wrong thing.
FoxyGoddess · 51-55, F
@Alyosha I think you have your original saying wrong then, because that would denote belief in both LoA and God.
And wrong is subjective. Wrong for you and that's okay. You don't have to believe or accept what I do. That's the joy of life.
