Peace is only earned through violence.
I know that a lot of people will interpret this as a call to action. It's not. It's more like an admission that human beings are horrible.
The only reason people in my country know peace is because of history—we developed forms of mass violence and used them on others to make a worldwide demonstration and force an ideological retreat.
Then geopolitical treaties followed to avoid more devastation.
There are still countries and civilizations out there who don't share our history, who don't have the power that we have. Many of them don't know peace because of it. And what's worse is that we don't care. Because of our extreme convictions, we assume that if a group of people don't know peace, it's because they haven't earned it—the men, the women, the children.
It's not true. Being born under the right or wrong circumstances doesn't earn you anything. Every child deserves a chance at peace.
And yet, our policies and modes of operation set in stone that people in other sects of life endure horrible things. Because they haven't "earned" peace. Have you ever laid eyes on a person under these circumstances? I have. Their pain is just as raw and hurtful on the eyes as anyone else's.
We are truly in hell. And what makes this hell worse is the belief that those who haven't seen the worst life has to offer are deserving of exactly that—the worst it has to offer.
I won't name names but I'm looking at a certain political affiliation in my country.
Over my few decades of life I've lost hope in humanity. I've seen how the safest and most privileged of us all believe that we've somehow earned that position in life. We haven't. We're just lucky. Lucky enough to be able to turn a blind eye on others, and go on with our life pretending that hell is not real.
It is.
