The old maxim from my generation and before is that you learn more from your mistakes than you do from your successes. Nothing ventured, nothing gained was another bromide we were raised upon.
And as for enjoying life, it is like the movie Pleasantville. Pretty much monochromatic black and white until you begin embracing differences, new and unfamiliar things, which begin to create a colorful environment.
As for overplanning, I have always preferred spontaneity. Particularly when traveling. Why be locked into the same tour queue with everyone else and miss the opportunity to pursue something unexpected you come across?

Confidence comes only when one confides in something. Most do not realize that the word confidence has the word confide in it. All are stressed because there is no long term plan or attainment. Most just live on a day to day basis, trying to catch up everything all just to say "been there.. done that" .. All want success and prominence too early without any foundation. They read all kinds of motivational lines and keep charging them up. Some idiot says "recite every morning that I am here to win" , there is a group doing the same thing as instructed like robots. They get stressed once they don't see results and there is the next thing to follow. Really a sad state.

I expect the worst so that I'm pleasantly surprised when things go right
