Today, Caylee Anthony would’ve turned 20 years old.

I can’t help but think about the life she could’ve lived—the milestones, the laughter, the memories that were stolen. Stories like hers always broke my heart, but now, walking through my own journey of trying to conceive, they hit me even deeper.

When a parent harms or fails to protect their child, it shakes me to the core. Life is so fragile. Children are so precious. And for those of us who long to become parents, it’s hard to comprehend how anyone could take such a gift for granted.

My heart aches for Caylee—for the voice she never got to fully use, and the future she never got to see.

Hold your babies close tonight. And if you’re still waiting, like me, hold onto hope.

I think about Susan Smith’s two sons. Andrea Yates five children. Some people should not have children. It’s why I get angry when other people try to insist someone who knows they don’t want a child have one anyway. 😞
