The moon did it.

Should have been more nursery rhymes about a goats jumping over the moon how often it becomes the scapegoat for wild ideas.

I found a picture of my grandfather when he was younger, sober and maybe a little sad. I found myself missing someone I never really knew. But I was his favorite granddaughter, he joked. I was his only granddaughter. I met him a time or two while he was sober. He was gentle, shy and very quiet. I thought there was something wrong with him. I wish I could have known that man. I did like the one I knew however. He sang me crazy songs about easy women named Sarah Jane. Sarah was always very eccentric, colorful and quirky. He had a quick wit and a sharp tongue but he was never cruel. Everyone in town knew him as The Rev, because he was so irreverent and outspoken. But if you were in trouble or needed a friend, he was always the man to talk to.

Someone I thought I knew once reminds me of him, but I think he was more fictional than real. I miss them both.
Th odd piece to me is that they even look alike and I had no idea.

Still, I’m going to blame the moon for these thoughts.

At the very least we can continue to write nursery rhymes wherein goats cajoling might inspire future readers and thinkers to spin their own webs of lunar ideas and idears and ideals.
I think I'm stuck on the moon too tonight...that and too much caffeine and unfinished buisness.
Your post got me thinking about the drunks in my past and the whys and whynots.
Chances are good that I'd have shared a drinking session with this man,The Rev- had my alcohol time machine placed me within his coordinates.Would we have learned and laughed? Who knows.
Did I truly know much of my mysterious grandfathers,Tim and Erick?
They sang me songs and occasional hints of war stories through their respective clouds of booze and regret, but I can't say we were buddies. So now I'm wondering about them along with Sarah Jane.

I appreciate this post. And the song I hadn't heard. Thank you.
@dubkebab @dubkebab I’m happy to. I’m certain you would have had a great time talking with my grandfather.
I love when you write this way. It only reminds me of a verse from my favourite author, It's like our visit to the moon if we ever really want to go that far.

I very glad you share this with us. As weird as it sounds, your story touches me.

So thank you

It was a cow, Einstein.

@dubkebab But the nursery rhyme is about a cow, not a goat.

It’s not that hard to get it right.

@RedBaron I do recall the verse. It seems her point was that she'd rather envision a goat.
That's allowed in current internet rules of nursery rhyme.

That's a very touching story. Thank you for sharing it. I wished I had known my grandfather better as well.
@Bang5luts wouldn’t it be nice to have known them when they were young? Before their whole lives wore them down.

My mom told me that as a kid it was not uncommon for a stranger to be sleeping on their couch in the morning. That somehow people who passed through on the trains knew they could stay there. Nothing bad ever came of it and it was normal to her. One would never know, because of the booming mouth on that man, that he had a soft spot for those in need. He was as least there to help as long as you didn’t try to screw with him. And you only got one chance.
