The idea of the soul is not just a religious creation, plenty of secular philosophies include it too.

yeah like a spark it is what created our self awareness it is indeed unique but still the idea is simple what make a man a man them secular s had no understanding of the human body as we do.

I didn't quite understand that, sorry.
AlmightyLoad · 26-30
back then we didn't know anything about human body like we do today so with all the facts we know today we can say that the frontal cortex is you as it holds all your memory's and personality so that it in the most literal sense your soul

But the thing is, we don't know these things, because it's more complex than that.

Not only is science incapable of certainty (and some would say knowledge), but the brain especially is complex to understand.

Sure, the frontal cortex is what seems to be activated in tandum with our processing & decision making, but it's also everything else in our brain. It's hard to pinpoint where 'we' really are inside the brain, where the consciousness lies that separates us from other animals.

Some propose the soul exists somehow as the will, the consciousness, affected by the brain, but ultimately being that which decides, that which we are.
