Well--you are you and I am me!馃槈

How so?

@Winterwanderer: Well we're different and we're the same, but our unique individuality helps to define who we are. Or something like that.馃槣 Or did you mean something else?馃

I mean what makes us who we are, what defines us. How am I different from you? Who am I? What are you? What does all of humanity have in common?

I mean a lot of things, there are a lot of answers to my question 馃槵 yours will do.

What is 'unique individuality'?
Bean1746-50, F
@Winterwanderer: All the things that make me me and you you--gender, ethnicity, socialization, political &religious beliefs, sexual orientation, etc... And what all of humanity has in common is that we're all here!馃寧 Lol馃槣

But then I think again, how well do those things really define us? Our gender, our ethnicity, our socialization, our jobs, our passions, our actions, our religious beliefs, sexual orientation, what we've done, what we'll do, what we say, what we mean, what others perceive of us.

When we talk to other people, who are they? Who do we define them as? And why are those things used to describe them? Is there anything else that can describe them?
Bean1746-50, F
@Winterwanderer: I think those things help define us because they influence our experiences in the world and thus affect our perceptions of the world. Your experience as a male is probably vastly different than mine as a woman--and that's just one variable.

I agree with the idea that it really does influence how we think and who we become, but as for defining who we are, I think we're something more than all of these things, all of these things we are and all of these things we've done. Something I can't quite place my finger on.. maybe it's the soul? Maybe it's free will? Or 'I', meaning my consciousness.

Either way, there's something more..

@Winterwanderer: Well therein lies the beauty of the mystery in us which escapes defining. The essence of who we are cannot be defined in words, and also needs to be intriguing to pique our interests in going on the path of discovering who we really are as spiritual beings having a human experience.馃槉

I'll take that answer (; incorporeal bodies in a corporeal world.
