Comparing sadness on the basis of what you've been though is like comparing fullness on the basis of what you've eaten. One person can eat two slices of pizza and be full. The next person eats the whole pizza before they're full. Both people feel full. Sadness is not directly relative to life events. You can have a great life and be in deep depression. People who constantly need to reel off their tragedies in order for their sadness to feel validated are missing the point.
