@Serenitree: humans are not animals right?
Serenitree · F
@Shironeko: if you're not a carrot, you're an animal, as far as classification goes.

But seriously, if you're talking about scientifically, yes we are.

. Well, I wouldn’t say all of you dress up! But seriously, are you asking if humans are animals? If so, the answer is yes-s-s-s-s-s-s-s-s!!!

Scientists describe virtually everything that is alive as animal or plant. So, if you’re not a plant then you are an animal! In fact, you are a specific kind of animal called a mammal. Know what you all have in common? Your mothers have breast milk that can feed young; you have hair or fur; and you are born live instead of inside an egg or case! In fact, human mammals are born not only alive — but kicking and screaming!

This doesn't mean you're a the same as a cow, or a grasshopper, but if you aren't a plant and you aren't a mineral, you are most definitely an animal. The whole world is made up of animal, vegetable or mineral.....not sure if gases are a different class of material. I'm no scientist, so I can only say what I've learned in school and by independent studies.

@Serenitree: that's a good answer

@Serenitree: thats wrong there is humans animals and plants
Serenitree · F
Sorry, kiddo. You need to do somemore research. I would say you're right, but then I wouldn't be treating you with the respect you deserve. I won't humour you. I won't lie to appease you. You deserve the respect of being treated like a young adult, not a child.

@Serenitree: i know that we are mammal but still i dont care about studies in my opinion humans are not animals
Serenitree · F
@Shironeko: that's okay. If you think about it, scientists say that everything that isn't a plant is an animal, that includes insects, fish, birds, viruses and bacteria.

@Serenitree: listen i respect you and thank you for commenting and everything but whatever you or anyone else says to me animals are animals plants are plants humans are humans.
Serenitree · F
You're not wrong. Humans are humans. You won't get anymore argument from me.

@Serenitree: thank you for understanding
Serenitree · F
@Shironeko: I understood what you were saying from the beginning. But tried to explain the scientists designation of life on planet earth. From your angle, we are not animals, just as dogs are not people...even though some of them think they are.

@Shironeko: basically we are animals with free will
Serenitree · F
@AirSupply: are you under the impression we have more free will than, say, an eagle, or a wolf?

@Serenitree: i think so yes 🤔 our choices is what makes us different from other animals don't they?
Serenitree · F
@AirSupply: I'm sorry, but I can't agree. Yes. We make choices. But so do the eagles and wolves. And other animals. The only difference is that we have the ability to choose to do evil. Not sure that makes us superior to other animals.

@Serenitree: gives us choice to do good too
SW-User
@AirSupply: I'd say self-awareness is the difference.
Serenitree · F
@AirSupply: yes. We have a choice to do good or evil. I feel, but won't say I know, that most mammals have similar, though not exactly the same choices. A dog, for instance, can choose to bite someone, or to just growl or ignore. If the dog who is trained to not bite, chooses to bite, that is a choice.. Free will at work. If it chooses to sneak up and grab the steak off your plate, when you're distracted, that too, is a choice.

@crossproduct: I sort of agree with you. But, but I would like to better understand what you mean by self aware.

@Serenitree: I mean that we are capable of seeing ourselves and our actions from the outside, and reflecting on them. We are capable of evil because we understand the harm we're doing. I see animals as fundamentally innocent; they live in the moment and just are.
Serenitree · F
@crossproduct: okay. I will accept that as self aware for the purposes of this definition. Thanks for taking the time to respond. Some people choose to see my questions as arguments. Or nitpicking. I don't do that. When I ask, it's because I actually want to understand. Thank you for recognizing that.
