Why is it socially acceptable to be racist towards white people?

And where's all these perks we allegedly get? I'm not seein that shit.

Because the affect racism has on white people is minute. Of course racism of any kind should not be acceptable, but you cannot deny that white people across the board do not have the obstacles related to race that people of colour face. Think about how important it is to have the respect of others. People of colour have the odds working against them even before they talk to a potential employer, landlord, judge and jury, bank representative, etc... simply because they are of darker skin.
White people will never have to deal with that. The racism they face will never hinder how successful they are in life. It is nothing compared to what people of colour have always faced since white people interrupted their lives.

So that makes it ok?

@Clouds: No. My point was that white people have nothing to complain about when it comes to facing discrimination related to the colour of their skin. Yeah it sucks, but they can suck it up and deal with it person to person. For a white person, racism is easily escapable. They don't have to deal it with every damn day of their lives.

I've never called a black person or a mexican a derogatory name, but have been called derogatory names by both.. been threatened by both.. been robbed by a black person.. I lived in los angeles and had to go through black neighborhoods. Racism is very real for white people too. I agree it takes on different forms in different contexts. No arguing that, but it exists on both sides. It must be ended on both sides in the unique ways in which it finds expression. Being blind and permissive of it creates imbalance and that just perpetuates the problem. The media loves this. Don't think for one second they actually want us all to get along. Neither do the politicians.
