Is money the root of all evil or can it also bring happyness?

People often say the love of money is the root of all evil. I feel it can also be a pathway to happyness. I am 31 living with my parents and have $0 savings and about $700 in my checking. I have a decent job but haven't been really good with my money. If I had about $20-$25k savings right now. I would be much happier. Not having any savings is always on the back of my mind. I am going to start saving from now on. It's just the time it will take to save up that's the hardest part. I feel like such a loser, which I am because I have been careless with my money. Had I been more discipline, I would have a lot saved up. I don't need or want to be millionaire just want to live a life comfort in which money isn't an issue. Started a T-shirt business with my friend that has great potential of making us decent money. Hopefully, things take work out.

Money is just a tool. It can be made or used in good, neutral or evil ways.

The real evils are excesses of greed, fear, anger or ignorance. Any of these can motivate someone to use money (or anything else) in ways that cause harm.
People often don't think sufficiently about the consequences of their actions.

It's how money is made and used that counts.

An old guideline is to put 10% into savings (one pay day). These days, because interest on savings is below the rate of inflation, it would probably be best to put the money into superannuation (or something that accumulates value over the long term, like gold.)
