Is money the root of all evil or can it also bring happyness?

People often say the love of money is the root of all evil. I feel it can also be a pathway to happyness. I am 31 living with my parents and have $0 savings and about $700 in my checking. I have a decent job but haven't been really good with my money. If I had about $20-$25k savings right now. I would be much happier. Not having any savings is always on the back of my mind. I am going to start saving from now on. It's just the time it will take to save up that's the hardest part. I feel like such a loser, which I am because I have been careless with my money. Had I been more discipline, I would have a lot saved up. I don't need or want to be millionaire just want to live a life comfort in which money isn't an issue. Started a T-shirt business with my friend that has great potential of making us decent money. Hopefully, things take work out.

There's a difference...money itself isn't the root of all evil, it's a useful thing.
The love of money (greed) is the thing called the root of all evil.
While that's closer to the truth, some evil arises out of hatred which is not based in greed...so even the love of money is not the root of ALL evil.
