Is it possible to have an English as good as a native speaker for poetry?

Yes. To appreciate or to write? Most English speakers feel like we're learning a new language when we are first confronted by Shakespeare.

My Spanish is quite poor, but I spent time reading Pablo Neruda to try to absorb the language. I looked at different translations, different meanings of the words to try to absorb the nuance. I found it powerful even though I knew there would be much I was missing.

To write? Poetry can be a simple essence.
