Is it okay to tell someone that’s mixed race that they aren’t really that race (read context below)?

I’m mixed...I’m often told I’m not really this or that and not gonna lie...it bothers me (doesn’t define or inhibit me, but yet- it sticks in the back of my mind). It makes me feel like I’m too light for one side and too dark for the other that neither are willing to embrace me as their own. Ppl don’t dare have the audacity to tell someone that’s mulatto that they’re not black so why is it okay for someone to say this to me? What do I say back?

What matters more to you, the race that someone says that you are or the race that you feel you are inside???

Seems to me that your priorities aren't quite as straight as they should be. Just because someone says something, it doesn't make them an expert or anything that they say truthful. Case in point... I regularly get called stupid around here. Am I really stupid??? Only if your mind is so closed that you are unable to see things from someone else's angle...
@HootyTheNightOwl it’s not about the race that someone’s says vs what I feel. It’s about many people in my lifetime telling me that I’m not what I am...like I’m this dirty and tainted thing that no one wants to claim. You have a good point - I am ultimately responsible for my mindset here, which I do a pretty good job at covering up feelings in the moment, but clearly bc I wrote this post I have some work to do on myself.
