When someone says "there are other ways to distract yourself", do they have something in mind?

Or is it just a saying?

@SW-User I told her that I used to watch sports on tv to distract myself from work but wouldn't anymore, and then she said "there are other ways to distract yourself". Mind you, two weeks ago I overheard her talking about how she tried gambling.

@scooogy Well 9 out 10 amateur psychologists think she's telling you she isn't getting enough attention and the other one isn't back from lunch yet.

@SW-User what kind of attention do you mean?
