Why is it that crying in front of others is seen as a weakness?

I really don't understand. It's something all humans do, yet we tell others that it's a shameful or weak thing to do it. Ironically, most of the strongest people I've ever know I have seen cry at least once.
I rarely cry because of the meds I take but when I need to cry I let it out anywhere I am. When it comes to your own emotions dont listen to anyone but yourself. Dont build walls. Cry, laugh , sing whatever. :-)

Expressing our emotions is a powerful and cleansing thing to do. Don't listen to people that say it's weak, its strength to be true to our feelings.

well at a visceral level, you are more vulnerable when you cry - both because you literally can't see well, and because you're obviously focussed on your pain so not paying attention to other things. I've never regarded it as a weakness personally, but I imagine the social attitude is rooted in that vulnerability

Only people with no compassion see it that way.
Crying isn't a weakness. It's a sign that you are experiencing pain and loss in your life. The only weakness there is, are those individuals who taunt you for having real emotions.
