If you have to "try" to maintain a relationship, is it worth keeping?

Depends on the return and how mutual it is . Every long term relationship requires effort, sometimes more so than others.

Empathy and compassion takes effort, respectful communication , being solution oriented in an argument, forgiveness .. especially if you had a lousy day. Consideration, keeping up with housework, dealing with kids, money, traumatic events like illness or death of a love one.. All these things exist in a grown-up relationship and take work. In reality, because people are human and life happens, very rarely is a relationship 50-50 every day. Some days one partner is in a better place than another and vice versa. @yogibooboo
