I have struggled with this for decades - and now I think that in these days of almost 100% effective birth control and the availability of the morning after pill - which prevents conception when taken immediately and correctly 95% of the time - abortion, and certainly more than one abortion - shows an appalling disregard for any life but one's own. Using abortion as birth control is the ultimate narcissism, in my opinion.
This, of course, does not apply in cases of rape or incest, mental disability or serious risk to the mother's life. Competent women who are participating in consensual sex know it can happen, they know it might have happened and doing nothing to prevent it and ignoring the option of taking a pill that may be free or may cost between $10 and $50 - and then opting for an abortion that costs $350 to $950 makes me question how competent they are.
If you are old enough to have consensual sex, you are old enough to recognize the possibility of pregnancy, to have a plan in place to prevent it, and to act on that plan in time. Anything else is thoughtless and careless. Nice girls DO have sex and we all know it.
Edit: If you are a woman in her child-bearing years - go to a drugstore or family planning center, get a morning after pill and have it on hand. Do that once every year or so (they are said to stay viable for a 'few years' if unopened).
