I'm no professional, but I speak from personal experience when I say just be there for them. Dont lecture them unless they ask for advice. Dont try to propose the same cliche solutions that they surely always hear, like "just get outside more" or "all you need is to sleep right". Depression as an illness is almost always chronic, and if you have a friend who has it, you'll have to be okay with just being there for them in their suffering, or being a shoulder for them to cry on. Listen to them, ask if you can help in any way. Go out of your way to make sure they know they are loved. And it might be difficult to do at times. But it is always worth it, because in the end you have uplifted a hurting soul, and through being there for others in their darkest moments, you will make the most loyal, loving, and amazing friends
