Why do alcoholics make random friendships with strangers? The last few addicts I’ve known has been known to meet the strangest of strangers

They make friends with other alcoholics... They are looking for people to drink with usually and people who will accept them as they are. Same with any addiction, you get clean and realize your friendships were based around addiction and nothing else but healthy clean living people do the same I guess.... We are all looking for people who share our interests and accept us as we are. Sometimes they find someone whose not on the same level but that person still feeds their addiction like a codependant relationship.

If you want to get technical, everyone you know is a complete stranger. You only think you know someone by a consistent pattern of behavior, do you ever stop and think if they would act the same in a different environment situation or circumstance. Your co-worker of 5 yrs is always nice and polite to people so there for he is a nice and polite person? His ex girlfriends say he's angry and mean when he gets home but you never met them or seen the man outside of a work environment. Character and nature of a person must be assed by environment, situation and circumstance. If behavior changes when those 3 factors are placed upon a person then you find out they were actually a stranger for 5 whole years 😉
