How do you get better at public speaking?

Grateful4you · M Best Comment
Join the "Toastmasters" in your area, it's open to all ages, totally non-threatening and really a blast, it's how I gained poise and the ways to hold interest without being boring. It will totally get rid of any fear of speaking in front of people.
@TheQueenBree WOW! like I said it's really fun and they love helping and supporting new folks. You won't be sorry, and if you do start going, keep in touch and let me know your progress.
And thank YOU for BA!😀

Besides taking a course, be well prepared and confident about your topic and rehearse by speaking out loud. Slow down when speaking. There are lots of pointers. Each person has their own things to get over with public speaking.

By practicing by yourself and in front of people. Doing it multiple times on your own will help to keep confidence while you're up there. If you really feel you can pull off whatever you've gotta say, it makes it much easier i'd say.

I always tend to look for the people who are not paying attention so I look like I am engaging the audience and feeling confident in my material helps.
@Keepitsimple Good advice. What kind of public speaking do you do?
Keepitsimple · 51-55, F
I don’t now but I worked in a hospital in the financial department as a supervisor so we always had meetings [@quit when done]

I present in front of executives all the time. One thing I do is, prepare and know that I know way more then they do, as I'm the subject matter expert. Be confident in yourself.
Toastmasters is a great group to help you practice public speaking. Google it to see if you can find a local chapter. If there is not one, start one.

There’s lots of YouTube videos on that. Plus practice whenever you can with or without an audience. Record yourself and watch it.

You have to do it. Also, prepare and know your subject in case you get any questions.

Practice makes perfect. The more you do it the more comfortable you feel.
