Why can’t people just be kind and accept difference?

Why are people so hostile and negative?
Why can’t we just be genuinely curious about trying to understand difference?
Why does someone always have to be right at the expense of another?
Why is their always an underdog? A misfit? A freak?

Because many people need to feel better about themselves and don't understand how to go about making their lives work for them in the way they want it to. They resort to easier methods learned in childhood.

How do we help them? With kindness? @SW-User

@MayaHope Unless they are open and willing to change, we can't. If they are open to it, they need to be taught how to change lifelong patterns. They need to learn how to retrain their thought process, which only a good therapist can help them accomplish. It takes a lot of time and commitment, which most people aren't interested in doing.
