Is it cheaper to build/repair a motorcycle than it is to buy one?

Just curious

Will you do the work yourself?

@SW-User yup

@XReaganX Then it very well might be, but pick and choose your part supplies depending on the model (I know nothing about bikes, or hardly things about cars)

@SW-User You're good this way? (mechanically)

@SW-User Bikes aren't really like cars when it comes to parts. You'll simply be buying OEM (or used) parts 99% of the time. Generics hardly exist - while aftermarket consumables (gaskets, etc) are just a bad idea.

Part availability varies dramatically with the manufacturer. I was absolutely amazed that the local BMW dealer had a mirror for my 20 year old RT in stock. Most manufacturers only make/stock the rubber bits for their older models.

@QuixoticSoul As they aren't as popular I imagine... Now at the same time with the right bike I imagine there is people collecting parts and holding them.

@SW-User Yeah, that's us stupid masochistic fuckers with old bikes who are anxious about part availability, so we stock up on 30-old parts, because we know which ones are inexplicably rare 😂
