Why do men become more attractive as they age?

Men become more attractive as they get older and women become less attractive as they get older.

I wonder why this happens differently to both genders? 🤔

I would point out that the subjective appraisal that a man becomes more attractive as he ages is both a generalization, AND the view of a woman, who is, as @RenaissanceMan alludes to, genetically programmed to think older men are better looking or "more attractive".

The corollary to a younger female being healthier to breed, is an older male appearing stronger and more fit to survive long-term. The best of all possible genetic pairings!
Kind of a bizarre approach to mating if you ask me.

@sttos Younger men are much more physically stronger and fertile.

@SW-User I appreciate your reply. Stronger, yes, but I'm not so sure about more fertile, as 90 yr old billionaires are still able to father healthy children! Young men are better, physically perhaps, to get them "implanted"? I'll give you that. But "attractiveness", in current society at least, is comprised of many different factors. Anything specific? Looks? Wealth? Status?

@sttos Male fertility starts to decline after 40.

Perhaps, but who's doing a "head count" during mating? It only takes 1, no?
And even if true, is that something that can be "sensed" externally -- visually? pheremonically? I wonder...

You have posted an interesting question, though.

@sttos I mean many older men can't get it on without viagra. I believe (some) women's attraction to older men is psychologically and emotionally based rather than physically.

@SW-User I agree, there are many factors that contribute to seeing someone as "attractive".
