We like to think so, but I doubt it very much, I like the idea that spirit comes from matter. Maybe the whole dichotomy is false.

In the engineering curriculum, the designers want you to have so many units of "analysis" courses and "synthesis" courses.
Analysis the breaking down of thing, the categorizing of parts, etc.
I think ppl tend to be stronger on analysis and so the overemphasize parts sometimes rather than looking at the whole.
If we have a spirit or soul (I personally believe we do), it is a part of our integrated whole...not.an accessory we put on when we wish...
