How did you get out of postpartum depression?

Please, ladies, share your stories and advice. I am a mother of a 17-month-old-boy and still struggling with my emotional instability.
I never have decided whether I suffered post-partum depression or some other crazy flavor. I was never diagnosed, partially because my daughter was born 35 yrs ago.

From the instant she was born I was obsessed, although at the time I thought it was all very sane and normal. I could barely take my eyes off her, could almost not stand her out of my arms. For the first three months I could not, would not sleep unless she was lying on my chest.

I was terrified if she was not under my supervision every moment something awful would happen. Somebody who was sane should have done something. It all came out okay...I finally got some reason realized I couldn't hold her until she got married.

If your doctor doesn’t know about your situation, please tell him/her. 17 month’s is a long time.

Having a child changes your life in so many ways, and stress is stress. Good or bad, still stress.

I wish I had a magic formula to give you but I don’t. DO make it a point to get some help. Maybe some mood-stabilizing meds for a few months until you can manage without them. If you had an infection, you’d take antibiotics. Same thing.

Do what it takes to get you on solid level ground again so you can truly enjoy your little one.

If I can help, even by listening, please don’t hesitate to PM me. I know that’s a lonely place. Everybody but me can have a baby and not go bonkers. Tough spot.
