Can I ask a question?

How do you not get uncomfortable around people outside your house? It's like whenever I walk on the street alone, I feel very uneasy and feel like can't look upfront. I fear eye contacts. Also, I feel like a weirdo.

First, you don’t need to ask if you can ask. The question option is free for everyone, including you.

Most everybody gets uncomfortable in unfamiliar situations, and that’s just common sense.

Are you fearful other people will try to harm or rob you? Are you okay with eye contact with family and friends?

Ironically, by not making brief ‘I know you’re there’ eye contact, you may be making other people uneasy. We tend to interpret someone not looking at us as an indication they’re up to no good.

Lissa is right...sometimes eye contact can be interpreted as a challenge.

@Mamapolo2016 Thanks for the reply. I wouldn't say I think they may harm me or rob me, but I fear I might look like a weirdo to them by acting so unnatural and uneasy. I don't have problem talking with family and friends while making eye contact at home. This "discomfort" happens in outside.
@Disturbed12 That all sounds pretty healthy. It takes some of us a little longer to get comfortable in our own skin. About all you really need to do with strangers on the street is a quick glance, a nod, maybe ‘nice afternoon.’ If you work at it a little while it should come naturally. They don’t expect the Gettysburg Address.
