Old people treating the younger people (especially millennials) with disdain. Disrespecting the people who are our future leaders of government, industry, public safety, etc, is kind of stupid, not to mention the fact that it's rude, and gives us oldies a bad reputation.

@Serenitree TBH we kind of do suck. 😅
Serenitree · F
@Chaoshead Every generation goes through several years of sucking. We were no better...except that our parents didn't allow us to get away with it as much as parents seem to be doing now.

But. Suck or not. You are the future. If we treat you with disdain now, why should we expect you to treat us any differently, ten years from now?
@Serenitree Older people? That’s pretty general. Not all old people do this. In fact, I see just the opposite, the way some young people make fun of older people and make us feel like we’re just in the way and taking up space. Treating elders disrespectfully. It just dawned on me, for the first time this evening, right before I read your post, that old people may be considered pretty useless. Pretty much.

@LadyGrace Yes, Lady. You're right. I did what I always object to. I said old, when in fact, I didn't mean all old, but some....even many.......but, I don't do it, and I'm guessing you don't, and I'm sure there are many others besides us who don't. And there are a lot of young people who do treat us with disrespect. But, there are plenty who enjoy the company of us old coots.

The thing I've noticed, and mentioned often, here, yes, but mostly on EP, is that the old person is exactly who you'd have expected he/she would be, if you knew them as kids/teens/young adults, etc. Arrogant kids will become arrogant old people. And without some serious intervention, depressed, angry, rude, violent, and every other negative behaviour, will carry into old age, and so do the positive behaviours.

I guess, yesterday, when this question arose, I'd just seen a prime example of bad treatment of young people by an old woman, and I wanted to smack her upside the head.

[b][big]So, here I'd like to apologize, to you and all the rest of the good kind decent people, old and young, who treat others with respect and kind words, for such a broad generalization.

@Serenitree Oh honey, it wasn’t that serious. No apology needed. Yesterday wasn’t the best day, so I think I was in a sensitive mood. I had to laugh when you said you wanted to smack that old lady upside the head. I wish I knew who that was, as I think I may have an idea. 😂 That is rude of her, for sure.

@LadyGrace It was a woman in our restaurant on the third floor of the building I live in. We have a lot of youth volunteers, because the restaurant is run by an urban ministries department of social services. I went down for breakfast and there she was. Standing right beside the first table in the dining room, criticizing everyone, from the volunteers to the waitress. She's hostile, and vile. I really wanted to smack her, but eventually, the waitress said very sweetly, "Would you like to sit down and order something? Or are you leaving now?" I wanted to give her a standing ovation, but I settled for two thumbs up.
@Serenitree Wow....that sure was a smart waitress. I’m really impressed.

@LadyGrace She's the sweetest girl. Not terrifically experienced, but she does her best, and she's getting better. What more can we ask of anyone. Waitressing is a hands on learning experience. She's only been at it a few months and a lot of the people here are pure hell on wheels. This is a retirement building. The youngest person living here is 60. You have to be 60 to get in, or be married to someone older than 60.
@Serenitree I really commend you. That’s a rough and hard business to be in.

@LadyGrace It is.
