I'm going to be blunt and real honest here.
In my life there were things that I went through that if I didn't lie to myself about them I wouldn't get out of bed in the morning. Lying to myself about certain things is a survival mechanism. My lies to my self hurt no one outside of myself.
Now I do believe that for some the baggage and the lies are a selfish act because by their denial they effect others.
There are many shades of denial and self lies, it is not black or white.

@dragonfly46 True. There are many shades of denial and lies. But it becomes a responsibility if a person involves another person in it and causes upheaval for them.

@SW-User I agree. I find though, that if one is oblivious to one others upheaval that was caused by them, they'll also be oblivious of the responsibility. By so doing there will be no solution and the victim is still left holding the bag.

@dragonfly46 Unfortunately, yes. I guess it is not always easy to determine who to invest time in because all these things are just something in hindsight.
