Did my country think I was to dumb for failing the Army test?
I just don't see how a man that wanted to be in the infantry needed excessive math skills.

there are more people wanting to join the army than there are places to be filled, they have to reduce the number of applicants in some way. Surely it is better to do it on the basis of education level, rather than something like physical characteristics.

When you first apply to join the army your level of education is a good indicator of your ability to follow instructions. This is what the army wants, it has nothing to do with "intellect".
