What's your general rule for when to give up on something?

It can be a relationship, a job, a hobby, or something else. Do you have a rule for when enough is enough?

I seem to have a checklist:
1. Ignore my gut.
2. Ignore my gut.
3. Ignore my gut.
4. Watch my world collapse around me.
5. Acknowledge that my gut was right as I pick up the pieces.

It's not the best, but it works.

@ImpeccablyImperfect I'm no mathematician, but it looks like you can simplify that process by cutting out a few steps at the beginning. ;)
